Book Blurb:

Lorella Constonce runs a boarding house in 1887, Giddings, Texas, not a brothel. If she ran the latter, she might know how to entice the sexy Sheriff Jefferies to more than just her dinner table. The need to hide something from him doesn’t help her cause.

Treydon Jeffries has a dead body in town and he suspects Lorella knows more than she’s telling. Treydon’s determined to discover her secrets, even if he has to seduce them out of her. With as many fantasies as he’s had about Lorella, he wouldn’t mind taking charge and finally putting her where she belongs—in his bed.

My Review:

This was a very fast read at only 48 pages in length.  It was a well done erotic historical western.  The characters were engaging and the plot moved at a good pace.

Lorella Constonce considers herself an average looking woman and has secretly been attracted to the town sheriff who comes to her boarding house twice a day for meals.  She has some secrets from her past and due to her busy schedule hasn't really made too many friends in town.  She has a new secret and is somewhat scared because of what she knows.  She's somewhat of an enigma for the town due to the fact that she is single, independent and is earning her own income in a time when most women are married and living with their husbands or single and living with their parents.

Treydon Jeffries is the town sheriff, he's a physically imposing man standing over 6 feet tall and he's fast with a gun, as some people in town have forced him to exhibit.  He's just and follows the law to the best of his ability, he also has a small secret- he's been attracted to Ms. Lorella for months but can't figure out just how much of himself he wants to commit and how to commit.
When he is called to the scene of a murder not far from Ms. Lorella's he notices a small boot print and figures that a woman was a witness and sees his opportunity to put his plans into work.

Both Lorella and Treydon are alone and have no other commitments, both have a built in sense of justice and both like to play games and have a bit of fun.  They are a perfect match for each other but they must first learn to completely trust each other with their secrets.  The ending of the story is fairly well done, although I would have liked a more complete resolution to the mystery of the dead man found at the beginning of the story.  The spicier elements of the story were well written, there is a little bit of bondage and one scene that includes a little bit of anal play.  This is the first book by Ms. Blackwell that I have read and I look forward to reading more of her work.
