Excerpt

I waited carefully for him to move, my gun aimed at the remains of the trunk. Lash stayed prone, on the ground, Devlin’s form still before him. One pale hand with a gold ring was visible, the skin black in places, scorched. My face twisted in anger. Bullets were too kind for these men.

“You aren’t going to just walk out of here,” the man shouted. “Your leader’s dead. Put down your gun, and we’ll let you live.”

Pleased that he thought I was a professional, I almost thanked him. Biting my tongue, I sighted in on the trunk, then blew the right side into pieces. The trunk swayed, then fell, exposing the man as he made a dash towards Lash, firing three shots at me.

I ducked down, then peered around the trunk just in time to see the last man approach Lash, and ease him over with his foot. Lash made no sound as he flopped bonelessly onto his back. The man lowered his gun and shot him again in the chest. Lash’s body jerked.

Fury filled me. I didn’t have a clear shot! I broke cover, moving fast, my gun held in both hands.

The man pulled off Lash’s helmet, looking down at him in contempt. “So this is the famous Lash,” he said with sarcasm. “I’d heard you were the best. What a lie that was.”

I almost had a shot! Just a little closer…

The man eased back the trigger, the click loud.

He was going to shoot him in the head. If Lash wasn’t already dead, he’d be killed. I stopped where I was and fired, the shot hitting a tree. The man wheeled around, and shot back. I dove for the closest tree, the bullets whining past me taking the bark off inches from my side. I took a breath, then peered out, immediately catching a bullet in the arm. With a cry of fear, I fell backwards from the sudden impact.

“Argh!” the man screamed.

The bullet hadn’t gone through my armor, or so I hoped. I staggered to my feet, my arm numb, grasping the tree for support.

“Arghhh!” the man screamed again. Another gunshot sounded.

I stumbled towards Lash, bathed in fear, my mind screaming at me to move faster before it was too late.

Yet another gunshot sounded.

Lash had the man fast on his knees, fangs buried in his throat. But his poison wasn’t working. The man was flailing and fighting. I ran towards them just as the man put the gun to Lash’s temple, and eased back the hammer. Lash glared up at the man, still biting him hard.

Cassandra Wales, an independent and determined registered nurse, finds her plans for the future shattered when her boyfriend dumps her. Her witchcraft made him squirm but she wasn’t about to change for him. The move into her new home keeps her distracted, but she’ll be sure to keep an eye out for red flags next time. She never expected to find an elderly woman, accompanied by her hot and sexy grandson Jake, at her doorstep with an odd request. Sparks sizzle between Cassandra and Jake. Bad timing for sure. Will she be able to trust a man who has women begging for his attention?

Jake Hill is an ambitious, up and coming lead singer in a rock band. When his grandmother asks him to take her over to her first home, he doesn’t question her motives. Instead, he meets the woman of his dreams. But will she stick around while he climbs the ladder in the exciting world of rock and roll?

How will Jake find the time to nurture a relationship when his music takes top billing? Can the passion between them be enough to lead the way, or will fear of failure take control of their destiny?

As Cassandra traced the outline of his full lips with her eyes, her hands trembled. A thick head of, shaggy, blonde hair held a sheen in the sunlight. There was a sense of familiarity in his voice, and it brought her comfort. As he bent down to get his grandmother’s bag, she stole a glimpse at his tight-fitting jeans. It was difficult to keep a thought in her head.

He placed the bag on the floor, stood and placed his hand on the roof of the car, giving her a peek at his tattooed bicep. His tight fitted, short sleeved shirt lifted giving her a clear view of his six-pack. He’s hot, but he’ a real show off. Probably has girls lining up at his doorstep. It wasn’t like her to gawk at a guy. The array of emotions she was feeling made her lightheaded.

All thoughts of her decorating project took a back seat to her raging hormones. Her focus was supposed to be on her new home, not a hot, sexy dude in a great pair of jeans. She took a deep breath in an attempt to get it together. He inched closer, and she got a whiff of his sensual cologne.

Jake oozed sex appeal.

Steadying herself, a silly thought cane to her. Is he about to kiss me? Wishful thinking on her part, but she’d never admit it. Jake didn’t have to make a move to pique her interest. The intensity of his stare, sent shivers down her spine.

“Look, I know this is sudden, but how’d you like to meet me this Friday at Shark’s, on
Willow Drive? We’re heading the bill and I’d love for you to hear us jam.” He tilted his head and reached out to touch her arm. “Say you’ll come. Please? No pressure, but my grandmother is waiting.” He gave a boyish grin.

His sensuous full lips tempted her to imagine a romantic interlude. I must be losing it. Never in her life had she found a man so tantalizing. She offered a playful grin, feeling the butterflies in her stomach grow. “I’d love to hear you play again.” A real date might be better, but a slow start sounded good for now. She didn’t expect to be so attracted to a man she’d just met. No formal introduction was needed. The chemistry spoke for itself.

“Can you make it this Friday night? I promise to spend breaks with you.” He kept his eyes on her, making his invitation hard to resist.

“I think I can make it.”

“You think? Try to be there. I’ll sing a song especially for you.”

She felt the heat on her face. “Okay, I’ll do my best to make it. It’s nice of you to invite me.”  Her heart pounded in her chest. She couldn’t believe she had made a date with a man she met briefly, right in front of her house. “Thanks,” she said.

“I’m stoked you’re coming.” Jake smiled and jumped into his car, buckled up and waved as he pulled away.

How on earth did that happen?

About the book:

Reluctant psychic Gypsy Shields—she prefers the term "intuition consultant"—finds herself in trouble when, on her way home from a blind date, she interrupts a kidnapping in progress. She attempts to intervene, and her heroics are repaid with a collision between the attacker's van and a brick wall. She awakens in the hospital, paralyzed on her left side and unable to speak. This also means she's unable to share her vital information as a witness. Fortunately, she is able to use her telepathic connection with her niece to throw a line out to a police detective she knows: Connor Reardon, her blind date.

Connor will do anything to protect Gypsy, and he listens to her claims of psychic power willingly, as he's concealing certain powers of his own. Nor are they all he's concealing. Gypsy senses a part of her new ally's mind is closed to her—what she cannot know is that Connor suspects the kidnapper is someone close to him, and the kidnapping victim holds secrets that will tear through Connor's department, putting careers and lives at risk. Including Gypsy, still in hospital and vulnerable as the attacker turns his sights on her once again.

Can she use her powers to track down the perpetrator and prevent her own murder?

EXCERPT

As Connor switched off the alarm, he knew it would be a rough one. The rumor mill was already in overdrive, and his phone had notified him with a ping.

A young woman, a police headquarters employee had gone missing last night.

The kicker was the confidential reports she’d swiped on the way out of the building.  Reports about suspect bent cops, written by internal affairs and for the eyes of that department only. Seems this lady was curious and not all she appeared to be.

He’d been exhausted last night and needed a full night’s sleep. It was still dark outside as he slid out of bed and slipped on his running gear. His morning run helped him keep his thoughts straight and make a reasonable start to the day. He grabbed the bottle from the shelf beside the door, and it swung wide has he headed outside. If he didn’t run he’d go insane or at least more insane than he felt already, dealing with the unrelenting pressure of being senior detective. As he headed down the steps he heard the satisfying clunk of the door closing.

Cold air stung his skin, and his breath formed plumes of mist that streamed past his eyes. Lengthening his stride, Connor pulled the iPod from his pocket to clip it his waistband. Some cops turned to drink, some to drugs, and others went off the rails.  After the failure of his marriage, he had turned to running, three miles a day.

Welcome to my stop on the Virtual Book Tour, presented by Wickedly Innocent Promotions, for Looks Like Trouble to Me by Calinda B. Please leave a comment or question for Calinda to let her know you stopped by.

About the book:

"Last name's Savage -- it means wild and uncontrolled," Jace, a party boy, yacht builder and skilled photographer with a quicksilver temper, tells the pretty waitress at Chica Rios. He's desperate to get laid, but there's something in the way of his driving, overactive libido and the girl standing before him - trouble...big trouble, and a whole lot of it, from the trustifarian prick who works by his side, to his messed up twin sister, to the secret hiding at his house.

He sets out to woo Zoé Dubois, keeping her away from his trouble at home, encouraging her to let go of her inhibitions and live "Savage style," riding with him on the back of his motorcycle, exploring the great outdoors in a variety of oh, so delectable and naughty ways. He ends up with way more than he bargained for. He uses his sexual experience to teach Zoé how to surrender, and his strong will and single minded focus to get his way with her.

But it turns out she's the kind of woman who demands the truth...and that's just not the way he rolls. She leverages his love for her to get him to let her into his troubled world and tender heart - something he's stubbornly determined to protect. Their passionate, erotic, romantic connection keeps them bound together while the trouble he brings threatens to tear them apart at every turn.

Mature content for an audience of 18+. The first in a two part series.

EXCERPT

“Sorry you had to wait so long,” Zoé said with a shrug. She set the stout in front of Jace.

“Didn’t mind a bit,” he said. “I enjoyed watching you work. You’re efficient, fast, and friendly.” He held up his dark brew to her.

She lifted hers, clinked his, and sipped her ale.

“And sexy as hell,” he said, gazing over the top of his glass at her, his eyes dark.

She felt another flush creep up her neck and cheeks. “What are we toasting?”

“First encounters. The thrill of discovery. I love to explore new things.”

Another rush of pleasure flooded her insides. “I’ll drink to that.” She took another swallow. “You seem to have an effect on me,” she said courageously. Stop it. You’ll get yourself in trouble.

“Is it a good effect?” he asked.

“Maybe,” she stated simply, fiddling with her fingernails, all good sense suddenly hijacked from her head.

“Are you wet for me?”

“What?” She practically spit out her beer. Wild jungle drums and dancing heathens now accompanied the ache between her legs. “You’re bold,” she replied, feeling ripped apart.

“Are you?” His green-eyed gaze pushed into her. “Wet, that is?”

“Guess that’s on a need to know basis,” she said, feigning a coolness she did not feel.

“I need to know. Because I’ve been sitting here with a hard-on for you for two hours.”

Her entire body surged with heat. “Jesus, who gave you the keys to the bulldozer?”

He chuckled and licked his lips. “Maybe it was you.”

“I don’t think so.” She pressed the cool glass against her cheeks. “It’s hot in here.”

He drained his glass, setting it on the table with satisfaction. “Finish up and let’s head outside where it’s cooler.”

“I don’t think that’s going to help,” she whispered.

Yikes!), fire walking (taught high-ranking Moscow fire officials how to walk the coals), kayaking, scuba diving (she's in love with sharks), travel, and falling in love again and again.

Living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with the love of her life and her two cats, she has now chosen to put fingers to keyboard and write - when she's not in pursuit of another adventure!
