Interview with Susie WarrenMe: Ruthless Perfection is the first book in “The Rosa Legacy” contemporary romance series. How many books are you planning for this series and will they all be set in Italy?Susie: There will be three novels in this series. The series started with the idea of a traditional Italian mother wanting her only daughter married. The mother along with her two sisters had emigrated from Italy as young girls and each created dynamic and successful families. Each sister had an only daughter and the three cousins remained close throughout their childhoods as they each embarked on a journey to create a life for themselves. The Exiled Jeweler, focuses on Emelia Berceto who went into seclusion after a scandal tore the family apart. The Candidate’s Fiancée tells the story of the third Rosa granddaughter, Lauren Montgomery, who is a speech writer in a political family.Me: You are a fairly newly published author with Ruthless Perfection being your second book and with a third book about to be released. Has your excitement level regarding a new release changed since your first release? Are you more or less prepared on release day?Susie: Definitely, I’m much more prepared. I was so nervous with my first release that I didn’t want to put myself out there. Now the idea of a reader downloading the book brings me joy instead of feeling scared. I’ve come to realize that publishing is a slow process and to be successful you have to put yourself out there and be willing to take chances.Me: Your first book, The Forgotten Heiress, takes place in both Ireland and New York and is also a contemporary romance. What drew you to write contemporary romance?Susie: I’ve always read widely across a range of genres including quite a bit of non-fiction. But a well written romance held the most appeal for me. It allowed me to be transported from every day stresses to a completely different world. If I’m ever feeling over-worked or particularly chaotic, I’ll end my week with an evening dedicated to indulging in a great romance novel.Me: Is there an author who influenced your writing style? A mentor of sorts?Susie: There is an editor who helped me shape my voice and writing style. Our children had become friends and I got up the nerve to tell her I was working on a novel. She invited me to join a writer’s group that she put together. Over the next few years, I participated in each session that she held. She helps writers figure out how to offer constructive criticism and reflect on the feedback they receive. She had a very kind way of saying tough things. I learned an enormous amount from her.Me: Besides being an author, you also work at a small independent school, have a husband and three teenaged children. What is a typical writing day like for you? Do you write daily or mostly on weekends?Susie: I have figured out through trial and error that I need to write almost every day. If I don’t then it is easy to lose the thread of a story and forget where I’m going. I get up early each day and write for an hour then if possible write more in the evening.Me: Do you have a “writer’s bucket list” of places you would like to visit for “research” – if yes, please give us a couple of locations on the list.Susie: I have a tendency to pick locations based on the beach. In the future, I’d love to visit Barcelona, Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, and Sydney, Australia.Quick Get to Know You Questions:Favorite food? Unfortunately, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is a favorite comfort food but I also like healthy, robust salads.Favorite beverage - non & alcoholic? Besides coffee, I pretty much only drink water. I love a good merlot wine but my favorite drink to order is a cosmopolitan.Favorite season of the year? I live in the northeast so we have very distinct seasons. I like each season but will get restless after a number of weeks and wish for the next season.Favorite un-healthy snack? I like corn chips and have to be careful about eating too many.Favorite book from when you were a child? When I was a young child, my dad would read Harry the Dirty Dog and I would wish for a dog just like him.Book you are currently reading? 'Til Death by Bella Jewel was recommended to me and I plan to start it this afternoon!

Isabel couldn’t believe she allowed herself to get drawn into this conversation. It was none of her business. She needed to go home and work on the schedule for tomorrow.
He looked at her and she could feel her heart race. “I have a completely different feeling about you. You are incredible at getting people to open up and, if anything, you tempt me to say and do things that I wouldn’t normally do.”
Without thinking she said, “What do I tempt you to do?”
He stepped closer and she could feel the nerve endings in her spine become heightened with anticipation.
Unconsciously, she bit her lower lip. She watched in fascination as he moved closer to her. Knowing that she should break the spell and step away, she felt powerless to do so. Her body felt hot all of a sudden and she waited for his touch without drawing a single breath. He traced his thumb over the sensitized area where her lower lip met her skin, causing her to draw in much needed air. His hand moved to the back of her neck, pulling her forward, and his mouth came down on hers. His kiss was gentle and coaxing until she opened her mouth fully and moved closer to him and then his kiss become more demanding.
Suddenly his hands were on her back, urging her closer, and his tongue deliciously explored her mouth. His body felt warm and solid as she pressed against him. The sound of their harsh breathing echoed in her head as she ran her hands over the taut muscles in his shoulders. She felt a tremor go through his body and it excited her.
She moved closer yet and luxuriated in the feel of his hard, strong body. He kissed her again and she moved onto her toes to fit her body against his perfectly.
He began to unbutton her shirt and she froze. Breaking away, she said, “We need to stop.”
“We are completely alone, cara. And you are driving me insane.” His voice was soft and coaxing as he gently touched a strand of her hair. .”
