My Review

A rapidly paced erotic romance, Love in One Night by Rebecca Royce is the story of two strangers who are brought together by the actions of an ex and find love in less than 24 hours.  While short in length (less than 50 pages), Ms. Royce manages to give us a quick, hot romance mixed with suspenseful twist.  Set in the Hill Country in Texas, the scenery plays an important part in this story.

An ex-black ops agent, Griffith McCallister spends his current days and nights tracking down lost or stolen items for his client, a large pharmaceutical company.  When one of the scientists steals an experimental and proprietary formula from the lab, Griffith finds himself on the hunt and in the Hill Country of Austin, Texas.  A man who never fails to complete an assigned task, Griffith comes up against something he never expected, love at first sight.

Melanie Driscoll walked away from her ex-husband with their child and a plan to build a sustainable community prepared to deal with any end of the world scenario.  Succeeding with her plans, Melanie and a community of like minded people have built a haven for themselves in the Texas Hill Country.  Having to deal with someone looking for her unscrupulous ex is not a surprise, finding herself attracted to a stranger is.

The scenes between Griffith and Melanie are rapidly paced; their mutual attraction is evident from their first meeting.  Going against her normal behavior, Melanie invites Griffith for dinner and introduces him to her small daughter Jenna. Somewhat distracted from his job for the first time in his life, Griffith is seriously attracted to Melanie and wants to protect her and her daughter from possible danger; especially from her unscrupulous ex who’s bound to show up and cause trouble.

Ms. Royce does a good job developing both Griffith and Melanie’s characters in a short amount of time.  Told from both points of view, we get to know what both Griffith and Melanie think and what they both feel.  While we get more of Griffith’s back-story, we get enough of Melanie’s history to be able to connect with her.

Will Griffith and Melanie’s attraction lead to more than just a one night stand?  Will Melanie’s ex show up and be a problem?  You’ll have to read Love in One Night to find out.  It’s an enjoyable short and perfect for a quick afternoon or lunch break.

My Rating:  3.5 out of 5 Stars
