Book Description:
Danica Welsh was born to be the leopard pack healer. An accident involving a drug induced youth left her badly burned and scared—emotionally and physically. Without the ability to heal by touch, she secludes herself to the edge of town, away from Ashwood Falls’ overly concerned citizens. All hope of mating and family become a distance dream. When she finally starts to accepts the long, lonely existence ahead of her, a stranger crashes into her life, and her heart.
After Nevan Mathews’ fiancée died three ago, he submerged himself into his work, cutting off all reminders of a life he dreamed of with the woman he loved. He lets his step-mother talk him into taking the first vacation in five years to visit for the holidays. But an accident delays his travel plans, sending him to Danica’s doorstep and raises a need he thought he would never feel again.
Can they tear down the walls around their hearts and submit to the passion before another claims Dani for his own?
Warning: Contains a shifter who's scars run deeper than skin, a human who has the heart of a shifter, and a snow storm that's sure to have them both reaching for warmth.

My Review
Giving us a sneak peek into a world where wolf and cat shifters have entered into a reluctant alliance in order to survive, Lia Davis introduces us to Danica Welsh, a leopard who barely survived an attack on her kind, and Nevan Matthews, a human with the power of empathy. With likable characters, sharp dialogue and just enough emotional angst to push the story along, I found myself turning the pages to discover what would happen next. Set in the fictional town of Ashwood Falls in the Smoky Mountains, Ms. Davis' descriptions of the surrounding mountain area were on spot.
Leopard healer, Danica Welsh, lives on the outside of her pack still mourning the loss of her parents and hiding the scars from the fire which damaged her abilities. Living her life as she wants, on her own terms, is all she wants. All of that changes when her late night run results in a car accident and brings a stranger to her door. Discovering her true mate is a human, with the gift of empathy, is an unexpected surprise.
Finally agreeing to visit what's left of his family during his vacation, Nevan Matthews never planned on wrecking his rental car trying to avoid a leopard in the snow. With no cell service, and too far away to walk on a cold wintry night, Nevan has no choice but to walk to the nearest house and ask for help. Falling in love at first sight with the woman who answers the door was not part of his holiday plan.
Danica and Nevan have great chemistry from the moment they meet. As they spend the night in Danica's cabin and begin to learn about each other; Nevan's gift of empathy comes in very handy. Understanding Danica's reluctance to discuss her burn marks, Nevan instead talks about his life, his job and the people he's lost. Ms. Davis did a good job with Danica and Nevan's emotional development, while strangers, they had just enough in common to be able to carry on several conversations before their natural attraction led to anything more.
Will Nevan want to stay once he discovers Ashwood Falls is a paranormal community of both wolves and cats? How will Danica, and the rest of Ashwood Falls, when they discover Nevan's ties to another paranormal community? I encourage you to read Winter Eve to find out. This quickie introduction to the upcoming series is entertaining and a good start.
