I fell in love with fairy tales and the romance behind happily ever after at a very young age. Like a lot of you, I tweaked the fables bit by bit in my imagination until they suited me perfectly. By the time I was eleven, a teacher encouraged me to start writing.

Throughout the years that followed, my teachers remained my most fervent supporters, giving me the tools I needed to continue my journey as a writer.

My husband and I have two teenage boys, who are heroes in their own right. For now, we live in a small Midwestern town near Lake Michigan…until a time in the future when a new adventure calls us to other shores.

Every now and then you open the pages of a book and remember why you fell in love with historical romance in the first place. I recently experienced this first hand while reading Finding Miss McFarland by Vivienne Lorret. The third installment in Ms. Lorret’s Wallflower Weddings series stars two wonderfully developed main characters and a handful of colorful and entertaining secondary characters. Set amidst the backdrop of The Season and dealing with the age old dilemma of wanting to be loved for who you are rather than how much money you are worth, Ms. Lorret’s story kept me turning the pages from start to finish.

The oldest daughter of a wealthy family, Delaney McFarland wants a different future than what her father has planned. Determined to have more control over her life, and her money, than is normal for a woman of her time, Delaney plans to find a husband willing to settle for a “marriage in name only” and only half of her dowry. Especially since her father doubled her dowry due to “the incident” that occurred during her debut ball. Ms. Lorret does a really great job developing Delaney’s character; a woman before her time Delaney is smart, headstrong and has a lively personality. She’s also afraid of finding herself in the same kind of “loveless” marriage her parents have so she’s determined to “marry for money”.

An eligible bachelor who will shortly inherit a fortune and a title, Griffin Croft can’t forget the redhead who made him the center of gossip because of “the incident” that occurred during her debut ball. When he “accidentally” hears her making a proposition to a notorious rake, Griffin is determined to save the woman from herself. Especially since fate seems to keep throwing them together. Ms. Lorret does an equally good job developing Griffin’s character; he’s handsome, intelligent and honorable. Determined to help his mother and sister’s since his father has taken ill and he’s been named his uncle’s heir, Griffin plans to make a “smart” marriage but can’t help being attracted to the outspoken redhead who has made a favorable impression on his family.

The romance between Delaney and Griffin is sweet, spicy and full of lively dialogue. Thinking they are complete opposites, and with the taint of “the incident” between them, they have no delusions about who they are and what they want. They just don’t realize that they are meant to be together. Ms. Lorret does a good job developing their relationship and the dialogue between them and their friends and family is fun and lively. It’s also great watching how the secondary characters conspire to bring them together.

Will Delaney realize her fears are holding her back from the love of her life? Will Griffin discover how much he loves Delaney before she can get away? You’ll have to read Finding Miss McFarland to find out. This is the first book I’ve read in the series and I hope we get to see these characters again. I just picked up the first two books in the series and can’t wait to read them.
