HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY E-BOOK

Ebooks turn 40 this year and Read An E-Book Week is being celebrated from March 6-12, 2011.

In 1971 Michael Hart was fortunate enough to be given $100,000.00 worth of computer time with a Xerox Sigma V mainframe computer.  He decided that instead of using the time to compute something that he would spend the time on a project concerned with the storage, retrieval and searching of what was already stored in our libraries.  

The first E-Book was born - a copy of the Declaration of Independence.  

This project would eventually become Project Gutenberg.  

One of the first genres to become successful in E-Books was Romance!

The most recent advance was made by a company called E-Ink.  They introduced a new display technology that is found in the Kindle today.
