Me: Caught In the Act is your 5th published book. How does the release of this book compare to the release of your 1st book? Do you feel like an “old pro” now?Sara: I grow more and more excited with each release, especially when the books are connected. After reading Full Exposure, readers reached out to me, sharing their excitement for the series. They wanted Katie and Liam’s story. And I’m thrilled to share Caught in the Act with them! These books can be read as standalones, but I think it is fun to revisit characters from a previous story and see what they’re doing.Me: The first romance novel you read, a book by Sabrina Jeffries, was a historical romance but you write contemporary romance? What drew you to contemporary romance as a writer?Sara: Sabrina Jeffries was my first, but once I discovered romances novels, I read widely across all the subgenres. For a number of years, I worked as a sales representative calling on the mass merchandize accounts. I often read the romance novels I was selling, which introduced me to Suzanne Brockmann, one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. When I sat down to write, I realized my voice was better suited to the contemporary marketJMe: You have a husband, two children and a Burmese cat. On an average day, about how many words do you get to add to your current WIP?Sara: Due to the kids (ages 4 and 2 ½), I don’t have an average day. I aim for 2,000, but most days I write less. Once I’ve written about half the story, I inch closer to my goal. I also take at least one writer’s retreat for each book, sometimes two, where I go away and write for twenty-four hours. If I’ve already written the first half of the book, I can add 10,000 words, sometimes more, to my WIP during those retreats.Me: So far you have 4 books scheduled in the “Independence Falls” series. Will there be more? And will you be adding any more books to your “Blaze” series?Sara: I don’t have any more Independence Falls novels planned at this time, but it is possible. I love the characters and setting in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.As for Blaze, Search and Seduce will release March 1st 2015. This story features a young widow determined to open a breeding and training center for military war dogs. I had so much fun writing about puppies!Me: Do you have a “writers” bucket list? Where would you like to be with your writing in 5 years?Sara: No, I don’t. But I have a long, growing list of stories I would like to write. I send my agent ideas constantlyJMe: Who is your current “go to” author to read/relax with?Sara: Right now? Lauren Blakely and Samanthe Beck top the list. I love their red-hot reads! I’m also a big fan of Jill Shalvis, Maya Banks, Laura Kaye, and Maya Rodale.Quick Get To Know you Questions:Favorite dessert? Vegan cupcakes!Coffee, tea or something stronger? Coffee. I go to sleep dreaming about that first cup of black coffee in the morning.Negligee, sleep shirt or pajamas? Pajamas.Do you prefer men in boxers, briefs or commando? Is there a D. All of the Above choice?Favorite take out meal? Vegan dumplings with tofu and shitake mushrooms from this lovely little café on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. I’m convinced I am more creative when I’m eating themJPlace you want to visit in the near future? I would love to go back to Disney World with my kids. I grew up in South Florida and loved visiting when I was a child. We’ve taken my kids twice now and I love seeing their faces when they walk into that magical word.
