Bad Alpha & Shapeshifters  by Amber Morgan

For me, when it comes to shapeshifters, there's really only one. I mean, I love a good werecat or werebear story, but my heart forever belongs to the king of the shifters – the werewolf. From the Greek king Lycaon to modern interpretations like Teen Wolf, the werewolf has been a part of our myths, legends, and pop culture forever! So maybe it was only natural, when I saw the call for the Bad Alpha anthology, that my imagination went straight to wolves.

I've written my share of werewolf stories under my real name (Naomi Clark), but I saw this story as a chance to go in a different direction, using the shelter of my pen name to protect me! And obviously EXILED ALPHA was a story that wanted to be told – I wrote ten thousand words in two frantic, blurred days, a record for me! This is a grittier, darker romance than I've written before, with an anti-hero who really is the kind of man your mother warned you about (and that's before we get into the fact that he's a werewolf!). So what is it about bad boys and werewolves that combines so perfectly for me?

It's that primal, animal side. It's that blend of predator instinct and human intelligence, melding together to make the perfect shades-of-grey hero – one who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to get down and dirty to get it. And my anti-hero, Arkady Gusev, definitely isn't afraid to fight dirty to get what he wants, whether it's victory over another wolf, or the heart and body of his mate.

I can't wait for you guys to meet Arkady and Rachel, the she-wolf who might just capture his stone-cold heart – so here's a quick sneak preview!

Excerpt

He held her gaze and saw both fear and determination in her gray eyes. That was intriguing. Fear he was used to, from men and women. The spark of stubbornness though...He didn't think Genie had brought her here for sex. Which was a shame, because his cock throbbed and he could think of nothing better than burying it deep in this girl's cunt. He couldn't remember the last time he'd felt such a primal lust for a woman. His wolf was practically salivating.

"I'm not here to be pussy for you," she told him.

Arkady grinned. Oh, she was a fucking delight already. "You can go," he told Genie.

She looked hesitant, but obeyed, because of course she did. Genie was a good girl.

This new girl didn't look good. And that was very exciting.

He stretched his legs out under his desk and folded his arms across his chest. "So what are you here for?" he asked her.

She looked him over, pursing her lips. "You don't remember me, do you?"

"You'll have to excuse me, sweetheart, but a woman's face isn't usually the part of her body I pay attention to." Not that he'd forget hers, he was pretty sure of that. Especially when she glared like that. It was pretty hot.

She’s been cursed to see ghosts, the dead not yet having gone to their final resting place, or judgment, or wherever they belong. They track her down, and harass her until she’s ready to go mad. Learning early in life what she needs to avoid has been the only saving grace in keeping her sanity intact.

Then she sees a man who couldn’t possibly be real. It was just her luck that such a prime specimen would in fact be deceased. Only he isn’t, and he’s taking notice of her. With a little temptation, some mystery, and a taunt he leaves her wanting more.

While those of a supernatural inclination aren’t exactly rare, they have had to be careful and keep their population down. Alexa is the woman for him the only one he could ever want or need. And when her life is put in danger by his own past Kurt won’t stop until everyone understands to get to this tiger’s mate, they’ll have to get through him.

Until, he meets the new SOA representative sent to convince him to go back to the lab. With mile long legs, a tight little ass and a smile to kill for, when she offers him a bargain, how can he possibly refuse?

Silvia Adams, has one mission: convince Daryl Jones to work for SOA again. The agency needs him to get back into the lab and help develop a serum to neutralize the growing number of vampires. She knew it wouldn’t be easy task, but with her job on the line, she’ll do anything it takes, including, bargaining with the shifter and surrendering to her deepest desires. Only problem is, she might have bartered for more than she can handle.

“Resisting His Mate” by Lynn Burke:  Warrick Keaton eludes a forced pairing with one of his kind. “Always Midnight” by Ashlynn MonroeTaryne Michael is all her younger brother Travys has ever had for stability. When fifteen-year-old Trav doesn’t come home after he fights with her she spends the next week searching for him. He finally comes home he’s not the same boy who slammed the door the night he left. Something is very wrong and when she discovers he’s been transformed into a werewolf she’s at a loss as to what to do. The violent, angry boy isn’t the little brother she knows how to deal with. Teenage hormones are nothing compared to the animalistic young man emerging from the boy she’d raised.

Ax Greyson is a lone wolf, an alpha without a pack. He enforces laws non-shifters don’t know about. Celo Valley, is a place where two species co-reside. The werewolves keep the humans blind to their existence by being careful. Someone isn’t following the rules. Someone is killing, with no regard for secrets. When killing the woman seems like the only way to keep his people’s secret until Ax’s instincts find another way.

Mate…the word is the only thing that can scare a man like Ax.

Adult Excerpt

Finally acquiring the strength to look away, Jillian realized that Leo wasn’t moving. He wasn’t posing, either. It was just a silent, motionless wait as he allowed her to absorb his presence, and she took full advantage. His head was slightly lowered, yet he was staring directly at her. The soft, recessed lighting circling the room cast highlights against the shoulder-length dark hair now slightly obscuring his handsome face. He was peeking out from behind a few sexy, mussed strands, making him even that more mysterious and alluring.

The faint light caused every muscle in his body to stand out in stark relief. Thick muscles capped the top of his broad shoulders while sculpted, strong arms hung calmly at his sides. His massive chest, sprinkled lightly with hair, rose and fell in a steady rhythm. Each breath showcased his perfectly delineated abdominals and the yummy muscles running along each hip and pointing invitingly to his groin. Large, defined thighs and calf muscles held up the delicious frame. Even his feet were beautiful. She sighed and glanced up when his rich, husky voice drifted to her ears.

“Your turn, Jillian. I need to see you.”

Despite the warnings screaming inside her head to call a halt to everything that was happening, her mother’s familiar words berating her existence, and the fear of the unknown punching madly on her ‘run’ button, Jillian kicked her sandals to the side. Life was too damn short. To miss an opportunity of being anywhere near this dynamic man would be criminal. She hated breaking the law.

Jillian reached down and gripped the sides of her dress. Slowly she lifted it over her head and let it pool on the floor next to her feet. She hadn’t planned to be in this situation tonight and suddenly wished she’d worn sexier undergarments. Despite the plain white bra and panties, she found his eyes riveted on her body, as if she was clad in something straight out a Victoria’s Secret catalog. The sight strengthened her resolve to remain and let him look his fill.

Leo’s command was quick, rumbling, and precise. “Off.”

She shivered as that strong, unwavering sound found only in her dreams finally hit her ears. This was it. The moment of truth. Everything would be bared to him. There was no more hiding. Keeping her eyes locked to his, Jillian unclipped the front clasp of the bra, drew the cups away from her heavy breasts, and let the material fall from her arms. Pushing the panties down, she tried to be as graceful as possible while her foot nudged them next to her dress. Glancing up, she saw that he was assessing everything.

Instantly, her nipples tightened and drew a soft gasp from her lips. Instinct kicked in and she reached up to cover her breasts, but caught herself before she succeeded. She lowered her arms and tried to keep from shaking out of her skin. His low, sultry voice sent additional tingles racing her spine.

“I see how hard you fight to keep from covering yourself, Jillian. That you’ve refrained without me having to tell you has pleased me immensely. I know that was difficult for you.”

Knees trembling, Jillian was unable to hold back her question. Swallowing hard, she gestured toward his groin. “You’re…you’re not hard. That makes me think that you don’t like what you see.”

Leo slowly shook his head. “No, baby. I like everything about you. Very much so. You’re stunning. More than I could have ever imagined.” He reached down, palmed his cock, and made two slow, steady strokes from the base to the tip. Opening his hand, it rolled out and rested against his thigh again. No different from before.

For a brief instant, she panicked and thought that he might be impotent. He quickly dispelled that theory.

“I have control, Jillian. That’s something you’ll expect me to maintain throughout our encounters. I’ll come to demand it of you as well.”

Chills traveled across her skin from imagining what this man was capable of doing. He was so masculine and assured. Jillian knew in no uncertain terms that she’d never have to experience embarrassing fumbles in the dark as he allowed the one-eyed blind snake to search for her opening unassisted, fighting for breath as he squashed her to the mattress while selfishly trying to get his nut, or falling asleep before he could completely roll off of her. No, that wasn’t going to be Leo Straton’s style, whatsoever. This was a fully-grown, virile, knee-wobbling, sex god standing within arm’s reach. Fuck. He’s going to consume me.

One

The fact it was drizzling did not dim the useful moonlight. The body had been meticulously scrubbed with antibacterial soap; hair shampooed; new white underwear guarded against the old jeans. The plastic gloves and the rain slowed down the digging. The skies opened just a bit more, but enough to wash away progress. Voices from a distance slightly accelerated the final touches. The exact placement of the artifacts was crucial. Finally, success. It was a shallow grave, but it was never meant to be anything more than a beginning.

Any time a book begins with a twisted burial scene, I know I’m in for a quickly paced, action packed crime thriller which will have me turning pages as quickly as I can.  Purified by Elizabeth S. Sullivan, her debut crime thriller, is one of those books.  Two quirky lead characters, colorful secondary characters and a sadistic killer focused on young African American women, kept my attention from start to finish.  If you like crime thrillers or books written in the style of Hollywood film noir, then this is a book you will want to pick up.

Ms. Sullivan does a wonderful job introducing us to her primary characters, Detective William “Will” Blake, named after the famous poet, and former ADA turned private investigator Rebecca “Beck” Oldman.  While they come from different backgrounds, they share a similar drive towards solving crime and seeing criminals punished.  I easily connected with Beck, a former lawyer who had made a mistake and was going through a personal form of hell in order to get a second chance.  She was aggravating, yet lovable, intelligent, but occasionally stupid, and was willing to get in whoever’s face she needed to in order to save the young women.  I also connected with Will, whose younger sister had been a homicide victim, and who he was determined to avenge by solving crimes.

The mystery behind how the victims are chosen and why the killer has a particular ritual is well developed and the story takes several twists and turns.  Ms. Sullivan certainly drew this reader in and kept my attention through everything that takes place.  The book’s plot is fairly quick and neither Beck nor Will seemed to be overly concerned with making friends as they tried to solve their case.

Will Beck be able to save any of the missing girls?  Will Beck and Will catch the killer and bring him to justice?  You’ll have to read Purified to find out.  I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of this author’s work.

An Indecent Invitation
by Laura Trentham
Series: Spies and Lovers, #1
Genre: Historical Romance - Regency
Release Date: August 25, 2015

Keeping her safe is difficult, keeping a proper distance from her is downright impossible.

Lady Lily Drummond understands only too well the danger of spy work. Her father, a preeminent master spy, has been missing for months, and her brother barely survived his final mission for the Crown. Lily is still determined to help find her father, no matter how hard her brother and his best friend try to keep her in the dark.

Busy trying to untangle the web of deceit surrounding the Earl of Windor’s disappearance, Crown spy Gray Masterson also has to ensure Lily Drummond, the gangly, awkward child who was his constant shadow growing up, doesn’t get herself ruined at her London debut. But the girl with scraped knees and elbows has evolved into a lush, sensual beauty surrounded by a bevy of suitors.

Realizing Lily is going to investigate on her own if he doesn’t let her join the hunt for her missing father, Gray assumes he can give Lily a few minor tasks to pacify her, but he quickly learns she is a valuable asset. Moreover, she fairly crackles with life and warmth—things he craves after his dark years in service.

Warning: This book contains spies, scandals, naughty liaisons in houses of ill repute, men who think they know everything and women who know they do not.

Lily slyly watched Gray confront Montbatton and then execute a courtly bow to Lady Abbott. How long before her reckoning? Only a few minutes had passed. Not nearly long enough for her heart to slow. He approached—not with angry mincing steps or even hurried anxious ones, but in a casual loose-limbed saunter.
Did he know?
Gray had been lanky in his youth, but he’d always possessed an unusual agility and grace. Seemingly never feeling awkward in his body, he moved with a compelling confidence that had only grown more telling over the years. A broad, deep chest and narrow, lean hips complemented indecently muscled legs. Not that she had made a close examination, heavens no, but she could hardly miss them flexing during their dance.
Perhaps he wasn’t the tallest or the most handsome man in attendance, but there was something about him. In fact, several ladies’ heads turned when he passed them by. Not that he noticed, because his gaze pinned her like an insect on display.
Not smiling nor frowning, his face revealed not a single clue to his mood. He stopped directly in front of her, cocked one foot in front of the other and clasped his hands behind his back. A purely masculine stance that, along with his silence, set her nerves jangling.
She tucked several escaped tendrils back into pins and then opened and closed her fan a few times. Unable to tolerate another second of the increasing tension, she yielded, feeling somehow as if she’d lost the first skirmish of a war. “We meet again, Mr. Masterson. Mayhap did you learn anything interesting?”
His eyes, vibrantly green and arresting even partially shielded behind his spectacles, shimmered with an emotion she couldn’t interpret. “I learned Montbatton is indeed in pursuit, and you should expect an offer. He informed me most vehemently to pass that information on. Lady Abbott thought it highly amusing I didn’t know your name. And lastly, I discovered Lady Lily should be in the corner with her chaperone.”
“Very impressive, but did anyone reveal my name?”
“Absolutely no one.” A single eyebrow arched above the rim of his spectacles.
Her shoulders, which at some point had bunched toward her ears, relaxed, and she tapped her fan against her lips to stem a victorious smile. “And I was so looking forward to another dance. Mayhap I’ll help you find your wayward friend instead. Over here did you say?”
A dark-haired matron in a red dress occupied the corner in question. She sat upright in a chair next to a ficus and, at first glance, appeared to be serenely observing the tableau of couples on the dance floor. The only indications she was soundly asleep were her closed eyes and slightly agape mouth. Her Aunt Edie was quite possibly the most worthless chaperone in all of England, which suited Lily perfectly. She’d no desire to relinquish the relative freedom she enjoyed in the country.
“That’s certainly not your debutante,” Lily said. “Come, let’s stroll while we look.”
“God’s teeth, that’s most likely her chaperone. Sound asleep while Lily runs wild.” Gray sounded truly aghast.
“Yes, your friend might be in the company of the worst sort of rogue who inappropriately whisked her away.” A cough covered her spate of giggles.
“Indeed.” His tone turned solemn. “She’s a highly impulsive chit not used to male attention. No doubt, she’d be easily lured into an indiscretion by a charming smile or prestigious title.” He tutted. “They’d only be after her dowry, poor thing.”
She sucked in a huge breath, ready to unleash her tongue, but his next words ripped the air from her lungs.
“Would you care to take a turn in the gardens as I haven’t earned a dance?”
“What about your friend? Shouldn’t you find her? What if she waits for you?” Her words spilled out too quickly. How many times had Rafe told her to never enter the gardens with a gentleman? At least a hundred. Although it was only Gray. If any man could be trusted, it would be him. Wouldn’t it?
“I was to surprise her tonight. She doesn’t even know I’m attending. We won’t be long, just a breath of fresh air. It’s rather stuffy, isn’t it?”
“I suppose a very brief turn in the garden wouldn’t hurt. It is awfully close in here.” Lily snapped her fan open and cooled herself with frenzied flicks of her wrist. Was it the crush of people or his suggestion making her feel so heated?
